FOCUS ON IWF

IWF DELEGATES AT ORIS MEETING FOR 2012 LONDON OG

 The Olympic Results and Information Services (ORIS) meeting was concluded on the 28th of October 2010 in Montreaux, Switzerland.  Along with the IOC and LOCOG, the IWF also participated, represented by Mr. Robert Nagy, Technology Director and Mr. Attila Adamfi, Competition Director.

The meeting assessed the technical requirements for results and information services for the 2012 London Olympic Games that will have to be delivered by the technology provider (OMEGA). The compiled document includes among others the processes, time limits, and information for those responsible for the system.

Following, Swiss Timing (OMEGA) invited the IWF experts to its headquarters in Corgemont to assist in the pre-testing of the Olympic timing and scoring system.


INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR FOR WEIGHTLIFTING COACHES IN BRATISLAVA

This week, under the IWF Development Program the Slovak Weightlifting Federation will organize an International Seminar for Weightlifting Coaches. The theme of the workshop will be “Sport preparation of Young Weightlifters”. The event will take place at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Comenius University in Bratislava on the 6th of November 2010.

The Agenda includes optimization of training loads, periodicities of strength, selection process for young weightlifters and specificities of building muscles.

Well known and recognized experts will hold lectures about health conditions and their effects and give information about methods of sports anthropology in training.

Mr. Attila Adamfi, IWF Competition Director will deliver the inaugural speech on the Opening Ceremony. On behalf of PhDr. Pavol Mutafov, President of the Slovak Weightlifting Federation and the IWF, we invite everyone interested to participate on this gripping and instructive seminar.

ANTI-DOPING NEWS

IWF WILL SOON START USING ADAMS

In order to facilitate the setup and to familiarize with the System the IWF will distribute logins to all NFs in the course of November. ADAMS will become obligatory for all IWF National Federations from the 1st of April 2011

IWF ANTI-DOPING WORLD CONFERENCE

The IWF Anti-Doping World Conference is planned to take place by the end of March 2011. Further information will be published on the IWF website as soon as the details are confirmed.

 

IWF GRAND PRIX

IWF CONTINENTAL CLUBS GRAND PRIX

 

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) organizes an IWF Grand Prix that is an individual qualification competition to be held in Penang, Malaysia from the 11th to 16th of December 2010.

 

In order to provide opportunity to more athletes for participation on international events and widen the possibility for Olympic qualifications, the 1st IWF Continental Clubs Grand Prix is open to every Weightlifting Club that is member of an IWF National Federation.

Besides medals for the Total Results in each bodyweight category for Men’s and Women’s, Trophies and Prize Money will be distributed to the best six Club Teams.

In accordance with the Team Classification, a Prize Money of 5,000 $ will be awarded to the best Men’s and best Women’s Team.

In conjunction with the Grand Prix, the 2010 Junior and Youth Commonwealth Championships will be organized as well.

CALENDAR EVENTS

ASIAN GAMES

The Weightlifting Competition of the 16th Asian Games will be held from the 13th until the 19th of November 2010 in Dongguan Gymnasium, in the co-host city of the Games Dongguan, China.

The weightlifting competition will consist of 15 events including eight categories for men and seven for women. The fully equipped training hall is located in Dongguan Basketball Gymnasium.

The official opening of the Athlete’s Village is scheduled for November the 5th. Approximately 10,156 athletes and 4,202 team officials from 45 countries and regions will stay in the Village during the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

Weightlifting is traditionally one of the strongest sports on the program and especially in China it is expected to be a magnificent event.


INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN FRANCE
"SOUVENIR DENIS RANDON"

The Tournament Denis Randon was created on the idea of Clermont Sports that Yves Randon decided to take back later on. The Tournament to commemorate Denis Randon, the founder of the Weightlifting Club of Clermont l’Hérault will be held on the 30th of October 2010.

The city hosts the only International Weightlifting Tournament of France for the eighth time since 1983.

The competition will welcome international delegations from Poland, Romanian, Germany and Belgium as well. The ambassador of the French delegation will be Benjamin Hennequin and besides him, Ali el Moujoud and Jean-Baptiste Bardis from Clermont Sports will compete to win the tournament.

This year’s competition will be even more exciting since the 2008 Tournament winner Robert Dolega (POL) will challenge to Valeriu Calancea (ROU) the title holder of the previous competition in 2009.


THE CRIOLLO CUP

This year the Criollo Cup was held in Caguas, Puerto Rico from the 25 to 30 October 2010. The event welcomed a total of 110 participating weightlifters from of 10 countries. Criollo Cup is a much appreciated competition for the Pan-American continent and its XVth edition was a great success.

 

OLYMPIC NEWS

BE PART OF THE OLYMPIC ADVENTURE

LOCOG has announced the ticket prices for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The breakdown of London 2012 ticket prices is as follows:
30% of the tickets at or below ₤20
Two-thirds of tickets below ₤50
90% of the tickets below ₤100

In all, 8.8 million tickets will be available for the Olympic Games and 75% of these tickets will be on sale to the public from March 2011.

NATIONAL FEDERATIONS

SUCCESSFUL TECHNICAL COURSE IN HA NOI, VIETNAM

On the initiative of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and Weightlifting Federation, a Technical Course took place in the city of Ha Noi, VIETNAM from the 13th until the 20th of October 2010.

The theoretical lectures were held by Mrs. Reiko Kato CHINEN, Member of the IWF's Technical Committee. She included many topics in her lecture such as the requirements of a Technical Official, the major rule changes within the current quadrennial, the role of Referee and Chief Marshal and some other technical issues.

During the practical exercises, Youth athletes of Ha Noi City participated in pointing out the problematic of officiating Good Lift or No Lift. The final review assisted in answering the questions raised by the participants.

Mrs. Reiko Kato CHINEN, lecturer, appreciated the initiative of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and Weightlifting Federation in organizing such course for the development of the Weightlifting Sport .
